Reading is FUN!

The Next Thing on My List: A Novel The Next Thing on My List: A Novel by Jill Smolinski

My review

rating: 3 of 5 stars
June Parker's life changes after a car accident that kills her 24-year-old passenger Marissa. June discovers a list Marissa had been keeping of 25 things she wanted to do by the time she turned 25. June begins a mission to finish up Marissa's to-do list.

This is the perfect light read to take with you on vacation. Definitely entertaining. I really wanted to move through the book quickly because I was anxious to keep up with her progress on the list.

Why Obama?

You know, to be honest most election years I choose the candidate who is Pro-Choice. That is the one issue I hang everything on and that typically is the democratic candidate.

This week someone asked me what is one issue that makes you like Obama and what is his stance on that issue? So, I responded with the following:

The first thing that came to mind when you asked me "what is the biggest issue that draws you to Obama" was that he isn't republican. I am a total liberal:

* I believe people should be able to marry who they want
* I believe I should be in charge of my own body
* I don't believe we are the greatest nation in the world (I think we have a lot of learning to do and that at our collective core we aren't always good people)
* I'm not all that religious anymore and anyone who is very religious (not spiritual) scares the living hell out of me (i.e. Palin)
* I believe in equality for everyone, not just the ones who look like and
are like the majority
* I am for stem-cell research
* I want a higher minimum wage
* I believe there are a lot of areas that politicians need to stay out of

All of these things are in line with Obama/Biden and not so much McCain.

Basically I tend to side with the democrats on Social Security, Medicare, public education, health care, taxes, the economy, prescription drugs, the environment, oil, and the war in Iraq.

I like McCain more than most republicans. Palin scares me to death!!

So when you ask what issue - it isn't an issue, it is a belief system. I guess that is why my vote will go for Obama/Biden. The truth is that I am in a big old blue state and in the end, my vote won't matter. Just like in Texas. :( But I'll cast it nonetheless.

Accidents

"Always have a plan, and believe in it. Nothing happens by accident." ~ Chuck Knox

“There are no accidents without intentions.” ~ Alex Miller

"All great work is preparing yourself for the accident to happen." ~ Sidney Lumet

Are there really no accidents because I did a doozy today!
